Nintendo of America, as the publisher, and The Pokemon Company have announced that players of Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver will be able to get, for about a month, a new item called the Engima Stone as long as they have access to wireless Internet through their handheld device. The Enigma Stone is a powerful artifact that can then gives fans of the Pokemon universe to catch Latias or Latios, a new Legendary level creature. The Enigma Stone give away starts on July 31 and ends on August 27.

Nintendo makes it quite clear that it will quite hard to get access to the new Pokemon. The press release mentions that “Only Pokémon players who have beaten the Elite Four, claimed the National Pokédex, and have two or fewer Wonder Cards can solve the riddle of the Enigma Stone to capture Latios for Pokémon HeartGold Version or Latias for Pokémon SoulSilver Version.” The Enigma Stone artifact will also allow players to access the Soul Dew, a new item that powers the Special Attack and Defense powers of the new creature.

Nintendo mentions that both Latias and Latios will be usable by those players who compete in the Pokemon Video Game World Championships that are set to take place in Kona, Hawaii, between August 14 and 15. A final qualifier competition is open on August 13, also in Hawaii, for those who are interested in the competition.

On September 18 gamers in Japan will be able to pick up Pokemon Black and White, the new pair of video games focusing on the creatures, which will introduce new characters and new powers to the universe. Nintendo says that are more than 30 new Pokemon that players will be able to discover in the entirely new video game experiences. Pokemon Black and White do not yet have a clear launch date for outside Japan but Western lovers of the series can probably expect them at some point during spring 2011.
