14 DAY TRIAL // Android 3.2 Honeycomb for Wi-Fi Motorola XOOM was deployed a few months ago in other regions. Unfortunately, Canadians were left out, but this is about to change as Motorola has started to roll out the update to all Wi-Fi Motorola XOOM units.
The information was confirmed by the folks over at MobileSyrup via Wi-Fi Motorola XOOM owners who were notified on the availability of the update.
Europeans were among the first to get the Android 3.2 Honeycomb update more than a month ago. Wi-Fi Motorola XOOM owners living in Denmark, France, Austria, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Norway, Switzerland, Sweden and the UK received the update OTA (over the air) in early November.
Aussie Android enthusiasts were next in line to receive the software update about three weeks ago, whereas the Canadians got it in mid-December.
Those who haven’t been notified on the availability of the update can search for it manually by going to System Settings / About Tablets / System Updates. Even if the update is not available users may want to search for it later, as Motorola pushes this one in waves.
Aside bringing the tablet’s firmware to version Android 3.2 Honeycomb, this update will also add several new features and performance improvements.
Firstly, Wi-Fi Motorola XOOM owners will be able to run all applications in full screen mode and make use of the QuickOffice app.
However, several Canadian users reported that the update does not add the full QuickOffice application, which means they are unable to create Microsoft Word documents.
More external keyboard layouts have been included as well, such as Hebrew, Arabic, Russian, Italian, Greek, Turkish and Polish.
VPN support was enhanced, along with docking support that automatically detects when device is connected and launches an application or docking profile. The screen now rotates faster when the slate is rotated and the Citrix client has been added as well.
