Calypso Wireless has started the production of dual phones, which are compatible with the WiFi networks as well as the GSM/GPRS ones. The C1250i model is based on an Intel PXA chipset, and the first units already await the testing of the cell phone operators.

The ASNAP technology developed by the company offers a system that allows cell phone operators and Internet service providers to identify and to authenticate cell phone users. In this way, it is created a platform through which companies can offer new services, like bidirectional video conferences and ASNAP technology. Moreover, the operators could benefit from a supplementary frequency spectrum, infrastructure, and equipments by eliminating Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) and IP networks, offering in the same time supplementary resources and incomes.

Demonstrations of the Wi-FI C1250i's possibilities will begin during the next weeks for United States and Europe operators. Their interest is justified by the excellent performances promised by the terminal in conjunction with the ASNAP technology. Users will be able to make real time bidirectional video conferences, place Voice over IP calls or to automatically switch the connection to a cell phone operator that offers signal outside the access point. The browser accompanying the C1250i model can also be used outside WLAN, so that users can permanently access the Internet. Moreover, it is backed by the instant messaging function between the terminal and the wireless LAN network.

The package contains a battery that offers a 4 hour life span for the VoIP calls, hands free kit, USB ActiveSync cradle and AC adapter.
