Today, mobile phone carrier T-Mobile USA went official with a new device set to land on its airwaves in the near future, the HSPA+ enabled T-Mobile myTouch, and also confirmed the upcoming availability of a very appealing feature for its Android-based handsets, namely Wi-Fi calling.

We already knew that this feature was set to become available for the carrier's Android devices, and now things have been finally confirmed.

Moreover, it appears that the new myTouch smartphone is not the only one to bring the feature to T-Mobile's users in the near future, as the Motorola DEFY, which was just listed as coming soon to the carrier, shows the same “Wi-Fi and Mobile Calling” feature on its specs page.

Here's what the wireless carrier notes on this functionality: “Expand your mobile coverage. Send and receive calls and messages over any Wi-Fi network, whether at home or on the road with Wi-Fi and Mobile Calling - even in areas that have little or no network coverage.”

Of course, the Wi-Fi capabilities of these Android devices won't be limited to the Wi-Fi calling, but this appears to be one of the most appealing feature that they might include.

Although rumors on the new feature being available for Android-based devices have surfaced for quite some time now, there are only few details available on what the functionality is all about.

According to a recent article on TmoNews, since the feature is details both on myTouch's and on DEFY's product pages, things seem to have been already made official.

Of course, it still remains to be seen what the availability of this feature on Android devices is all about, as well as whether upcoming mobile phones would also include it.

In the meantime, those interested in learning more on the matter should head over to T-Mobile's website here and here to take a look at the product descriptions for myTouch and Motorola DEFY, respectively.
