Opinions back in 2001

When looking at the incredible and astonishing success of the so popular iPod, listvine.com reflected on what was the general opinion about this wonderful gadget back in 2001, when it was launched.

In October 2001, Apple took the wraps off of a new, secret product, the iPod. This product has been, and still is the source of a great deal of speculation and rumor. The iPod has without doubt changed the way music and video are distributed and - most importantly - the way they are priced.

When thinking about those days, some might still remember that everyone thought that the iPod was a crazy idea, a stupid and useless thing that won't work and that no one will like. Of course they were wrong; but let's be realistic now?who would have thought it would be such a success back then? Well, except maybe Steve Jobs...

Listvine.com made a selection of some comments made on a popular apple/mac forum, comments that followed the release of the ipod.

Some are funny, some were correct at the time but look silly now - but in all cases, remember what they say about hindsight?

"Great just what the world needs, another freaking MP3 player. Go Steve! Where's the Newton?!" - By WeezerX80

"I'd call it the Cube 2.0 as it wont sell, and be killed off in a short time?and it's not really functional." - By Elitemacor

"Hey- heres an idea Apple - rather than enter the world of gimmicks and toys, why dont you spend a little more time sorting out your pathetically expensive and crap server line up?" - By Pants

"I still can't believe this! All this hype for something so ridiculous! Who cares about an MP3 player? I want something new! I want them to think differently! Why oh why would they do this?! It's so wrong! It's so stupid!" - By WeezerX80

"All that hype for an MP3 player? Break-thru digital device? The Reality Distiortion Field? is starting to warp Steve's mind if he thinks for one second that this thing is gonna take off." - By NobodySpecial

"I for one am disappointed and think that apple is making a mistake by trying to get into this market." - By Jaime

"This really isn't that revolutionary of a product (?) I don't know what the big deal is. So?it works well with apple's software?.big deal, anyone can do that." - By Matthodgson

"Any way you spin this it is: Not revolutionary? A bad fit?(and) without a future." - By FatTony
