Samsung’s flagship might find a use in the business world

Samsung has caused a big splash with its latest flagship phones, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The new phones have been acclaimed as the company’s best efforts to date, albeit missing some important features like removable battery and microSD card slot.

On the bright side of things, however, the Galaxy S6 finally looks like a premium device, coming with a glass/metal build that will make your mouth water. Samsung has also trimmed down its TouchWiz interface making it lighter and snappier than ever.

While Samsung is advertising the new phones as the perfect companion to be had by anyone with an active life style, it is increasingly becoming apparent that the Galaxy S6 might actually prove to be a very good enterprise phone.

We’re going to put aside the fact that the phone runs Android out of the box for a second and focus on the positive features the phones brings to the table.

Android might not be the best choice in the work environment but...

Even if Android is the most popular mobile platform, the OS is plagued by major issues including fragmentation. There are multiple device manufacturers using Android on their handsets, but most of them take up tweaking of the original interface offered by Google. It’s the case of Samsung too, who has TouchWiz.

On top of that, there’s the issue of different versions of Android being in use. The latest Android 5.0 Lollipop is currently serving only 5% of total devices, while the majority of Androids are still stuck at KitKat.

So system administrators can’t seem to cope with the plethora of Android devices running different versions of the OS.

But as I said above, let’s skip this issue for a second and imagine the Galaxy S6 has been adopted for enterprise usage. Will it make for a good business device? I think it would. Here’s a few reasons.

Reasons why the Galaxy S6 might be a good enterprise phone

The Galaxy S6 arrives with Samsung Knox integrated security. Slowly, Knox seems to become a standard for security and is being recognized by agencies and businesses alike.

Samsung Knox 2.4 is being offered via the device’s security settings, and after installing the My Knox app, it’s pretty easy to set up different work and play environments. This way, work information remains protected by an extra layer of security.

The Galaxy S6 also brings forth a reliable and secure fingerprint scanner. Samsung has finally upgraded the identification system on the phone, so unlike the Galaxy S5, you won’t have to swipe your thumb from upside down on the Home button, but simply put your finger on it for recognition.

This setup is similar to the iPhone 6, and for the time I handled the Galaxy S6, I wasn’t confronted with any failure in fingerprint authentication.

Samsung’s new phone might not come with the removable battery the company’s fans love, but it is compatible with two standard wireless charging methods.

Sure, battery life is the Galaxy S6’s weakest point, but the good news is that an addition charging plate might make things a lot better in the life cycle department (although you’ll need to throw in some extra cash for that).

The handset also comes with a fast charging A/C adapter that will allow users to charge the phone from 0 to 100 in a bit less than 2 hours.

One of the complaints customers have about the Galaxy S6 is that Samsung dropped the microSD card, but this aspect makes the phone safer to use in an enterprise environment. After all, integrated storage doesn’t have the same corruption and performance issues we see in microSD cards.

Another important aspect found in the Galaxy S6 is the full-featured Exchange client, which allows access to local folders, searching the server, so business users can get work done right from the comfort of their handset.

Last but not least, the flagship integrates Samsung Pay, a service that comes with support for existing point-of-sale terminals. Therefore, travelers will be able to leave their credit cards at home and travel only with their trusted smartphone.
