Microsoft wants to show you the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is better

Microsoft is trying its best to stir your attention away from competing products that do not run Windows. You might remember that back in August Redmond was attacking the MacBook Air, saying it’s nearly as nippy as the Surface 3 Pro.

Fast forward a few months later and Microsoft is pulling the same strategy, this time trying to highlight the prowess of the newly launched Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro.

So in the latest promo ad, Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Air is placed head-to-head to Lenovo’s Yoga 3 Pro.

Most of the ad focuses on how flexible the Yoga 3 Pro is, comparable to Apple’s laptop, but at the beginning we’re also shown the difference in thickness between the two gadgets. The MacBook Air comes at 17mm / 0.6 inches, while the Yoga 3 Pro is just 13mm / 0.5 inches.

Furthermore, we’re being shown the Yoga’s multiple ways of use, which include tablet and tent mode plus its new and innovative hinge design. Eventually, the MacBook stops spinning and admits defeat, gloomily shutting its lid.

It’s interesting to see how Microsoft is increasingly targeting Apple’s MacBook line. This strategy might have an underlying explanation that’s worth taking into consideration – most recently Apple ascended to the world’s top five PC makers, an industry which has been dominated by Lenovo.

Apparently, Microsoft’s Surface revenue saw their numbers double in the last quarter, so we could assume these ads are actually having an impact on mass collective.

So Microsoft is hoping the same strategy will aid one of its partners, Lenovo, in this case, sell more of its latest convertible products.

Microsoft forgets to mention pricing

But one thing that Microsoft fails to compare on its product website/commercial is the price. The Apple laptop starts at $999 / €800 while the Lenovo one is a little bit more expensive, with a price climbing up from $1299 / €1040.

The price difference is to compensate the Yoga 3 Pro’s higher resolution display and multiple ways of use. On the other hand, Apple’s choice of shipping out a laptop with a lower-resolution display allows the machine to sustain up to 13 hours of life.

Now it might be a good time to remind you that, in the first preliminary performance tests, the Yoga 3 Pro has been shown to face some CPU throttling issues.

On the bright side of things, a tear-down of the convertible revealed the machine is equipped with a swappable battery, SSD.
