Although it's another kick in the head for the PS3, Phil Harrison says it's allright

By now, everyone is familiar with the fact that Sony has lost exclusivity for the Grand Theft Auto series and that the fourth implementation of the game will hit both the PS3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360. It was only logical that the series would eventually be ported to Microsoft's machine as it has tremendous capabilities, pretty much like the PS3. Now, Sony put on a happy face about it, although it's clearly something for them to worry about. Phil Harrison's interviews with numerous bloggers shows just how indifferent they are at Sony about the whole deal.

In one of them, Sony's executive says: "I don't think PS3 has the install base to support Rockstar's investment in GTA IV on its own." So, is GTA IV like something really heavy that Sony can't hold anymore and is going to let a piece of it go? Sounds like they won't admit that exclusivity for Rockstar's series just slipped through their fingers and now they're trying to put on a good image for themselves.

The GTA series contributed tremendously to the PS2's success and saying that losing exclusivity for it is no biggy...well it's just not like that. You see, porting it to the Xbox 360 will only result in further agony for Sony. They're losing money with their PS3 as we speak and losing exclusivity for Rockstar's game isn't helping one bit. Why don't they admit that it's bad and just get it over with?
