In a desperate solution for a better life, thousands of workers coming from a lot of poor countries are trying to build up the city of skyscrapers that emerge on the coast of The Persian Gulf.
Dubai, the city in United Arab Emirates, is nowadays filled with workers that live in horrible conditions and work around the clock.
They raise the foundation of eye catching malls for the customers to rush in and spend thousands of dollars made out of the rich petrol soil. On the other hand, apparently wealth is only on one side, as the
companies that employed the workers don't want to pay the wages.
A worker declared for CNN that "it's been six months since I've been paid, but what can I do? There's no work in Pakistan either". Therefore, most of the workers continue to work and live in miserable conditions, because there's no other better alternative for them.
Near the fancy skyscrapers, concrete apartment buildings where five workers squeeze in a two-by-two meter room can be seen.
In protest, thousands of workers have gone on strike.
The same Pakistani worker goes on saying: "maybe five out of 100 companies are fine, but the rest are bad".
As the protest reached the ears of the authorities in Dubai, they threatened to take tough penalties if the companies do not pay the workers on time. Brigadier Saeed Matar Bin Bileila, Chairman of a Committee specially made to deal with labor complaints said: "We will make sure through our sources that companies enforce the rules. We have our own way of dealing with this".
The Government also said that the companies that delay further the pay of the wages would not be granted government and semi-government contracts or they would not be allowed to recruit more workers. The result of these measurements has not been seen yet; hopefully for the workers, it will be felt in the near future.
