Because it would have gotten wet

Since the day was coming to an end, I thought why not hit Apple Discussions to see what iPod/iPhone users have been at lately. A laugh is always guaranteed since not everyone takes appropriate care of their Apple devices, but some go to extremes in killing their electronics. This poster claims his iPod "was in the rain and"... you'd have never guessed this one - it "got wet." He wants to know what he should do.

The issue has proven very serious indeed, since Apple Discussions members have failed to provide the now-broken-iPod owner with a solution to his problem. But just when I thought this mind twisting puzzle was just too hard to solve, out of the blue came a second question from the same iPod owner: "what if the port on the ipod was bent?"

This is where someone actually decides to take the matter into their hands, and posts: ".... i have seen so many posts like this that it makes me nuts... what do you honestly think yo should do???"

After cooling off a bit, the angry replier decides to actually provide a decent answer to the issue - probably out of respect for the iPod itself, which, for all we know, could be sitting on a radiator right now, or suffering from port maltreating: "first reaction is to dry it off and let sit for a few days then try to turn it on and hope that it works and it if doesn't then its not going to work....."

This of course triggered a solidarity feeling for Apple Discussions members, which is why another user came to the rescue: "Another poster put his wet iPod in a box of (uncooked) rice for a few days. I'm a bit dubious as to the value of this (rice absorbs water but you have to boil it), but he seemed happy with the result. Can't do any harm, anyway."

Tell you what, "Wet-iPod." Salt absorbs moisture even better. Why don't you just throw that iPod in a big box of salt, wait for a day or two, then get a pair of pliers and start bending that port back into position. Then use a more powerful AC adapter, say... 100 V, to ensure iPod startup and that should do it.

The sad part is that we actually have to mention this last part was a joke and advise this iPod owner to just get a professional opinion (shrink), otherwise we might find ourselves held responsible for crispy iPod.
