It looks like Sony's so expected PlayStation 3, which will hit the Asian retail market in November, will have to face a possible failure, as a not-so-known challenger - Xplorer has just launched a device that promises to turn into HD ever piece of game it encounters.
All you have to do is to hook it up with a HDTV via a RGB component-video cable and the old version of the PlayStation - the 2 - and the magic is on the screen. The problem, only for Sony, as a matter of fact, is: "Who is going to pay no less than $600 for its Blu-ray PS3 when there is a bargain on the market that costs less and is compatible with any PS2 dedicated game?"
Xplorer's PS3 Slayer is named HDTV Game Player and this little baby will be able to upconvert PS2 output into 720p or 1080i. What do you think? Pretty nice, isn't it?
And now comes the best part. The company said that its latest gadget is able to upconvert any game even if it is displayed on a common non-HD TV. This would be something to see and test. The hard core gamers will be able to choose their favorite resolution which will be then stored on the device's memory card.
But the Game Player will be compatible with both PAL and NTSC standards of the HDTV and it will feature an additional output for the computer display - a standard VGA cable.
If you want it, you should look it up on Xplorer.com starting September 1. The company hasn't disclosed the price yet, but we will keep you informed.
