Adobe went a long way from Acrobat Reader, the simple, classical solution used by the majority of users. Adobe attacked tangent domains like Quark's QuarkXpress.
Even if at the beginning, users were reticent, Adobe's InDesign suite popularity grew, after Conde Nast Traveler and Cosmopolitan, two well-known magazines, started to support it.
Released
in October 2003, Adobe InDesign CS provides users with production functionalities, allows freedom of creation and offers support for several media channels. Programmers and managers have all the reasons to be proud: "We didn't have a good trimester, we had a spectacular one ", said Chief Executive Bruce Chizen on 17 March in a Business Week Online interview.
The financial results come to back up his statements: Chizen's department had a net income of 151.9 million dollars which means a 23% increase compared to 123 million dollars recorded last year. The total income amounted to 472.8 million dollars, representing and increase of 12 percents.
Another locomotive for Adobe is the Creative Suite which consists of tools for graphic artists and DTPs and including Illustrator and PhotoShop proved to be a wise choice.
Chizen's next target is Macromedia's Dreamweaver which in the next years will have a strong competitor.
