Glu Mobile confirmed that the mobile version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?", licensed from Celador International, has passed the one million sales mark in Europe. This milestone has been reached in less than eight months since the Java game first launched.
With questions taken directly from the hugely popular TV show, "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" for mobile challenges players with a set of increasingly difficult questions that lead up to the life-changing final answer and a virtual 1 million.
"There are a number of TV brands that have been
ported to mobile and have virtually become unrecognizable from the original game or show. Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? manages to captivate gamers by staying true to the creative vision of the show whilst giving the player a rewarding but highly challenging gaming experience customised for their mobile," said Kristian Segerstrale, vice president production at Glu.
"It's no surprise that a million mobile owners across Europe have picked Millionaire? as one of the best games for their phone."
"Millionaire? has captured the imagination of consumers, becoming a hit on every platform on which it's been launched, and mobile has proven to be no different," said Simon Gunning, director of interactive at Celador International. "Mobile gaming is still a new phenomenon, so passing a million downloads is no mean achievement. It's testament to the effort and expertise of Glu that we have reached the million mark so quickly, and this hugely successful quiz format continues to grow into a perennial brand."
As well as the original "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" for mobiles, Glu has published themed versions of the game. "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Celebrity Edition" is packed with questions about all the latest celebrities and Hollywood stars. The soon-to-be launched "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Music Edition" tests players' knowledge of music and bands from the sixties to today. All three games are available from mobile operators across Europe.
