Legendary singer found dead, drug overdose suspected

Legendary singer Whitney Houston was found dead in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel just hours ago. Police have launched an investigation into the possible cause of death, but an overdose seems likely.

Whitney was just 48 years old and was one of the greatest voices of our times.

The singer was in town for tonight’s Grammy Awards. Earlier this week, she was spotted out and about, and even photographed clubbing.

TMZ reports that she was found unresponsive in her hotel room. By the time they arrived on the scene – in just a few minutes – paramedics could no longer help her in any way.

“Our sources tell us a member of Whitney's entourage found her in her 4th-floor room at the Beverly Hilton hotel and called hotel security – who then dialed 911. When paramedics arrived Houston was found unresponsive,” the celebrity e-zine says.

A publicist for the star has already confirmed the tragic news.

“We're told police arrived to the scene within minutes and fire was already there on an unrelated call. According to our sources, paramedics performed CPR but it did not work and she was pronounced dead at 3:55 PM,” TMZ further says.

In a separate post, the e-zine claims to have it on good authority that prescription drugs were found in Whitney’s room, so the theory of an accidental OD holds water.

However, the cause of death could have been drowning, TMZ notes.

“No illegal drugs have been found in the hotel room where Whitney Houston died – at least not yet – but prescription drugs were present, and it's possible the singer drowned in the bathtub,” says the same media outlet.

As noted above, just a few days ago, Whitney attended a pre-Grammy party, where she also performed. It would be her last live performance.

When she left the party, she was photographed by the waiting paparazzi looking not her best, which immediately drove tabloids to speculate that she might have relapsed into heavy drugs use.

Houston had a long history of drug abuse but, for the time being, authorities can’t say whether an overdose was the cause of death, until toxicology results are in.

It is believed tonight’s Grammy Awards will remember Whitney Houston as the amazing, wonderful artist she was. She will be missed.
