Second fake shot down in just as many days as fans prepare for WWDC

It’s not uncommon to see an abundance of leaks before any Apple event, including fake ones, but some of them are so obviously faked that the media shouldn’t even bother covering them.

However, when you put bread on the table through page-views, it’s hard to resist, isn’t it? Case in point, several reports around the web have pegged this plasticky Chinese knockoff as the iPhone 6 in White. People actually seem to be giving this so-called leak credit, so we’re making it our business to tell you it’s a fake.

And a blatant one at that. Set aside the cheap plastic that the company wouldn’t use in a million years, the biggest giveaway is actually in the operating system. Featuring a never-before-seen-in-iOS status bar filled with monitoring utilities and smaller-than-normal icons, this device is running an Android OS tailored to look a lot like Apple’s mobile operating system.

Turned on its belly, the phone sports an elongated LED Flash cutout (something Apple is said to have ditched in the iPhone 6), while the front shows some barbaric windows for the camera and the proximity sensor. Certainly the Cupertino giant would do everything in its power to make them far less visible.

The Chinese text appearing on the screen doesn’t help either, and you’ve probably already noticed that there’s no Apple logo on the back either. In all likelihood, this is probably the budget version of iPhone knockoffs.

What we feel is more disturbing is that the so-called leak is being tossed around as possibly genuine by sites that should know better. Sites that have gained a reputation in the tech industry, and they’re now tarnishing their own image for the sake of a few extra page-views ahead of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference.

In related news, a video purporting to show the company testing a bunch of slides ahead of tomorrow’s ceremony has also been confirmed as fake. Albeit more convincing than the “leak” on hand, the clever video montage actually fooled most people in the Apple blogosphere, leading some to believe that the Mac maker was actually planning to release the iPhone 6 tomorrow.

However, WWDC is known to be a software-centric affair and Apple has pulled iPhone launches from the summer event in the past years. The iPhone 6 isn’t expected to show its face until late-August or early-September. And when it does, you can bet it will not look as cheap as this.
