The shape of the glass also influences how much people drink, researchers say

Researchers at the Iowa State and Cornell Universities in the US now say that people who consume white wine tend to drink a tad more than those who opt for red do.

They say that, because white wine blends in with the glass, people are likely to pour some 9% more than they would if they were drinking red wine.

The researchers also argue that the shape of the glass influences how much a person drinks in one sitting. Thus, wide glasses cause people to drink nearly 12% more than they normally would.

What's interesting is that, as experiments carried out with the help of 73 volunteers have shown, people are likely to pour 12% more wine when holding the glass in their hand, Daily Mail tells us.

“When given the option, choose a narrower glass, place your glass on a table before pouring, and select a wine that does not match your glass to avoid unintentionally over-serving,” the researchers recommend.
