Sad news from India says that, earlier this week, a white tigress living at the country's Van Vihar National Park passed away. Information shared with the public says that the feline died on Wednesday, in the late hours of the night.

The white tigress was 14 years old at the time of its death. Apparently, it had been diagnosed with cancer in its eyes about two years ago, and passed away after the disease progressed far beyond veterinarians' possibility to help it.

Specialists explain that, unlike run-off-the-mill tigers, white ones have a weak immune system, Times of India tells us. This condition might have helped speed up the big cat's death, the same source says.

The white tigress was named Lalita. It was brought to the Van Vihar National Park back in 2009. During its first years, it lived at the Nandan Kanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
