14 DAY TRIAL // The recently-discontinued White (polycarbonate) MacBook is seeing a minor price cut on Apple’s Special Deals section where the once-popular Mac laptop can be purchased for $749.
Replaced by the svelte MacBook Air line with its finely tuned processors, solid state storage, Thunderbolt ports and, of course, an aluminum unibody chassis, Apple’s old White MacBook can still be purchased almost brand new, as a refurb through Special Deals on Apple’s web store.
Cupertino recently discontinued the white laptops and decided they were worth fetching no more than $749 (a substantial $190 discount, considering its original retail price a week ago).
For that price, customers get a sleek white Apple laptop equipped with a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, a 13.3-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display, 2GB of memory and 250GB hard drive, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics, Apple’s built-in 7-hour battery, and a built-in iSight camera.
The computer was originally shipped in late 2009 when Apple revised its polycarbonate enclosure and went from multiple enclosing parts to a single piece cast from molten thermoplastic polymers.
For those asking, the device is more than capable of running OS X Lion, the latest version of Apple’s operating system.
Upon your purchase, however, the MacBook will come pre-installed with Snow Leopard.
A newer model that shipped with a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor in May 2010 is also available on Apple deals at a discount - $849.
In addition to boasting a faster processor, this SKU also has better graphics - NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory.
