The "We the People" platform is already yielding results

Barack Obama has been pretty busy recently, what with the big elections coming in just a couple of months. Even so, he's been making some time to spend with "the internet," his Reddit AMA blew away traffic records for the site and generated a lot of attention.

Well, if there's one thing Reddit likes more than famous people doing AMAs, it's beer. Well, there are probably a couple of other things but they're a bit more illegal, so let's stick with beer.

Granted, Reddit is hardly alone in this, so maybe it's no big surprise that the latest news from the White House is of a more practical nature, quite literally, it's a recipe for making the White House's very own beer.

Obama is a fan of home-brewed beer, it seems, and brought a kit to the White House kitchens last year.

No one there had any experience with brewing beer, but with the help of a few people who worked at the White House and brewed beer at home as well as a hand from a local homebrew shop a couple of recipes were born.

"As far as we know the White House Honey Brown Ale is the first alcohol brewed or distilled on the White House grounds. George Washington brewed beer and distilled whiskey at Mount Vernon and Thomas Jefferson made wine but there's no evidence that any beer has been brewed in the White House. (Although we do know there was some drinking during prohibition…)," Sam Kass, an assistant chef at the White House, wrote.

With the recipes perfected, the White House decided the only fair thing to do is to make them public. The decision didn't really come out of nowhere, the request was actually one of the most popular petitions created via the We the People app that the White House recently open sourced.
