If you're an animal rights activist, you might want to think again before accepting an invitation to dine at the White House. Especially if you know for a fact you'll be served lobsters, crabs or some other shellfish.

PETA says that the chefs working at the White House boil these animals alive (as do several other chefs, I'm sure) and that this causes them to experience tremendous pain before dying.

“They likely suffer every second of the three long minutes that it takes for them to die in boiling water,” the organization writes on its official website.

PETA is now demanding that White House Executive Chef Cristeta Comerford agree to use a so-called Crustastun to curb these animals' suffering.

They've even sent her a letter encouraging her to buy a Crustastun and start using it as soon as possible.

“The Crustastun is an easy-to-use device in which the animal is placed in a small saltwater tank and is instantly stunned into unconsciousness by an electrical current with the push of a button.”

“Lobsters die within five seconds and crabs within 10 seconds,” PETA says.

Chef Cristeta Comerford is yet to respond to this plea.
