Early next year, Apple will debut its hottest product yet, a wearable gem that runs iOS and packs sensors that can track your physiology. The company plans to ship three distinct versions of the watch, one of which will be made of gold.

Dubbed “Edition,” the high-end Apple Watch will come in yellow-gold and rose-gold finishes and is said to cost around $5,000 (€4,000). If that’s not high enough for the bling fanatic in you, then Mervis Diamond Importers has something even more outrageous on offer.

Simply too much

For some, even the golden finish of the iPhone is a tad over the top. But a watch is a different thing altogether. In addition to being a time-keeping piece, these things are also fashion statements, even status symbols. Apple understands this, and along with the newly-hired Angela Ahrendts, it plans to market and sell one version of its exciting new watch with a case made from 18-carat gold.

The exorbitant asking price that is being touted in the media is enough to put off most potential buyers, but there will be a market for this expensive gadget nonetheless. However, for those who are really “going for the gold,” the people at Mervis Diamond Importers are offering up a “Diamond iWatch,” featuring the 18-carat gold Edition model with a tennis-design bracelet studded with eight rows of the finest diamonds totaling 15.14 carats. The stones are graded as E/F in Color and VS1/VS2 in clarity, according to LuxuryLaunches.

Ruined Apple design

Regardless of how much spare cash you may have, money can’t buy you good taste. You simply have it, or you don’t. And our guess is that Mervis simply ruins Apple’s design with what is essentially just an opulent diamond-studded gold bracelet. It really doesn’t need the watch at all. It works just fine on its own.

For comparison, we invite you to browse the gallery below to see how Apple meant for the gold watch to be worn, the various configurations you can opt for, and the bands that suit it best.

Even some of Apple’s own designs don’t fully match the golden finish of the Edition watch, let alone such a gruesome I-am-rich statement that has no place being soldered to technology. The same goes for diamond-studded iPhones and Macs, for that matter. Aren’t these things enough of a status symbol already?
