An updated version of the WhatsApp application is expected to become available for download for the owners of Windows Phone devices in the not too distant future, providing users with some appealing new features over the already included ones.

The new app version has already been pushed to users who signed up for beta testing it and is available for download as build number 398, with support for setting custom background images for different contacts, as WPCentral notes.

With this feature inside, the application offers increased personalization capabilities, so that users can enjoy even more control over the experience they receive when chatting with friends.

The new enhancement is part of the previously included custom background image function in the app, while providing users with a gallery of 41 high-quality images and with the option to set as backgrounds images snapped with the phone’s camera or downloaded from the web.

Apparently, the upcoming WhatsApp release will bring a series of tweaks to the background selector too, including the “New group” option moved to the menu system. The jump arrows that allowed users to move to the start or end of a conversation have been removed in the latest build as well, it seems.

What remains to be seen is when exactly the new application iteration will become available for download for all Windows Phone handsets out here, as no specific details on this have been provided as of now.
