It’s been one month and about two weeks since BlackBerry 10 was officially unveiled and lots of developers promised they would bring their popular applications on the new operating system.

WhatsApp Messenger was not among those applications available at BlackBerry 10’s launch, but the team behind the highly-acclaimed apps promised it will bring it to the fans as soon as possible.

Well, it appears that it took less than two months to add WhatsApp Messenger to the list of available applications for BlackBerry 10.

Today, WhatsApp Inc. and BlackBerry announce that a native version of WhatsApp, the popular mobile messaging service, is now available to the BlackBerry 10 platform.

“BlackBerry has always been about bringing people together in a way that is fast, reliable and impactful. WhatsApp is a leading mobile messaging app that connects people to their contacts on several platforms, and we are pleased to work with WhatsApp to bring their service to our customers,” said, Martyn Mallick, vice president of Global Alliances and Business Development at BlackBerry.

The application is fully integrated into BlackBerry Contacts, so when users launches WhatsApp Messenger for the first time, it will automatically scan current phone numbers in the contact directory and extract only those that are using WhatsApp.

WhatsApp Messenger for OS 10 is now available as a free download via BlackBerry World, but the application requires a $0.99/ €0.8 usage fee after the first year of use.

Note that even though the application has yet to appear in BlackBerry World on the desktop, it will show up on the phone when searched for.

“BlackBerry has been a great platform for WhatsApp for many years. Delivering WhatsApp on BlackBerry 10 devices is in line with our goals of ensuring that our customers around the world can continue to communicate with the most important people in their lives,” said Brian Acton, co-founder of WhatsApp.
