WhatsApp Messenger developers recently announced that their application now has more than 800 million users worldwide on all platforms. This is quite an achievement since no earlier than January 2015 the company confirmed WhatsApp has around 500 million users.

If this trend maintains, WhatsApp could announce 1 billion users by the end of the year, which will probably put the application on top of the most popular instant messengers available on mobile operating systems.

One of the newest features added to WhatsApp Messenger is voice calling, which allows users to make and receive calls via Wi-Fi connection.

The feature is only available for Android and BlackBerry users, but Windows Phone and iOS platforms are supposed to receive it as well.

Today, a brand new feature has been confirmed to arrive on WhatsApp Messenger for Android, AndroidPolice reports.

A new option that will allow Android users to back up their WhatsApp Messenger chats through Google Drive has just been implemented.

The new feature is included in WhatsApp Messenger version 2.12.45, which is not yet available for download via Google Play Store. The new version isn't even listed on the developer's website where WhatsApp releases its app first.

Select how often you would like to back up your conversations

Anyway, the new option allows users to enable back up through Google Drive. In order to do that, you will need to head over to Settings, Chat Settings, Chat Backup and select how often you will like to back up your chats (Off, Daily, Weekly, Monthly).

Keep in mind that you will also be able to choose whether you want the back up process to take advantage of Wi-Fi only, or Wi-Fi and cellular networks.

Of course, you can also choose to back up your chats right away by hitting the “Back up now” option. It's also worth mentioning that the backed up data is loaded onto Google Drive, but it will be hidden.

In order to see the hidden WhatsApp back up files, you will need to head over to Settings, Manage Apps. Last but not least, videos can't be backed up yet, but images and conversations are.
