The novelties will become available with Voice Calling

The popular messaging app WhatsApp has been expected to add a Voice calling feature for quite some time now.

Sadly, the development has been delayed several times but a few weeks ago we finally got ahold of a bunch of screenshots showing what the feature will look like on Android.

The presence of these images indicates that WhatsApp is getting ready to launch the new feat on several platforms.

At some point Whatsapp CEO said that the Voice calling feature would arrive sometime in 2015, hopefully during the first few months, but who knows?

Skype and WhatsApp will form a partnership

While we wait on that, the Mak Tech Blog shares with us some novelties regarding what else WhatsApp might be getting in 2015.

It appears Voice Calling is going to become a big part of WhatsApp, but this feature is already being offered by the competition. Skype, for example, could be considered one of the biggest competitors.

But things aren't always what they seem. According to the new piece of information WhatsApp and Skype are working hand-in-hand on a “Call via Skype” feature to be implemented in the wider Voice calling scheme.

The reference to a “Call via Skype” option was dug out from WhatsApp’s own iPhone app which received an update back in November.

The code-strings also revealed a bunch of other things which are going to be implemented in VoIP including Call Mute, Call Hold, Call back, Call me in X minutes, Call back message, Call via Skype, Call Notifications and Separate screen for call logs.

"Driving Mode" is coming too

But the “Call via Skype” feat isn't the only interesting detail that was dug up. Apparently, traces and an icon of a so-called “Driving Mode” were also uncovered.

There are no references that explain what this “Driving Mode” actually entails, but we do have some theories. For example, “Driving Mode” might be code for a “Do not disturb”-like profile when one is operating a machine.

Or it might be possible that WhatsApp will be outfitted with the possibility of reading out messages and calls, so you’ll not be disturbed by your phone while concentrating on the road ahead.
