One of the most popular IMs for Android and iOS platforms, WhatsApp Messenger made its debut on Windows Phone quite some time ago. However, the application is nowhere near its counterparts from the other OSes.

The Windows Phone application had lots of issues in the past and had to be pulled from the store, so that developers could fix some of its issues.

It took a few weeks, but WhatsApp has been brought back to Windows Phone Store, and to this date it’s still not working as it should and it lacks some of the features that are already part of the Android and iOS versions.

The good news is that developers are working hard to add lots of new features and improvements, which are supposed to fill the gap between the Windows Phone app and the other versions.

If you’ve been lucky enough to be accepted in the beta program, then you already know that WhatsApp Messenger has been receiving lots of updates in the last couple of weeks.

Each of these updates brought in a few new features and tweaks, which are expected to make it to the stable version at some point.

The folks over at WPCentral have been kind enough to put all these new features that have been added to the beta version of WhatsApp together, so Windows Phone users know what to expect in the not so distant future.

As per their reporting, WhatsApp Messenger (beta) now allows users to send their location to another user of the application. In addition, there’s now an Archive option where users can archive messages if they want.

Individual backgrounds and Archive are already included in the beta version

You just need to tap and hold on a contact in the WhatsApp list and choose the “archive” option and all messages with that contact will be archived for safekeeping. Obviously, you can also un-archive these messages when you want to read them.

Furthermore, it looks like developers have improved the photo editor that’s already available in the stable version of WhatsApp. With the new one, users will be able to crop, rotate and add captions to photos before you send them to your friends.

The beta version of the application also allows you to set a background for each of your contacts if that’s what you wish. Also, the fonts will be smaller and tighter, which means you will be able to see more from a long message without having to scroll down.

It’s unclear when exactly a new major update for WhatsApp Messenger for Windows Phone will be available for download, the word is that developers may launch a new version of the application “soon.”
