The new version is available for download via the developer's website

Good news for Symbian fans who use WhatsApp Messenger as means of communication with their friends and family, as the developers have just released a new version of the application.

WhatsApp Messenger 2.11.398 is now live on the developer's website, which is probably one of the few places where you can download it, given the fact that Nokia Store has been closed for Symbian applications.

Last year, Nokia announced that Symbian applications listed in Nokia Store would not receive any updates after January 1, 2014. This means that the latest version of WhatsApp Messenger won't be available for download via Nokia Store.

However, the folks over at WhatsApp Inc. are determined to continue to support the Symbian version of its messenger. The reason is pretty simple and that's because many mobile phone users from emerging markets could not afford to switch to newer platforms yet.

Unfortunately, the newest version of WhatsApp Messenger does not come with an official changelog attached to it, so there's no telling what's new in this iteration.

Anyway, old and new users can now download WhatsApp Messenger for Symbian 2.11.398 for free via Softpedia. Keep in mind that the application should be fully compatible with most devices powered by S60 3rd edition, 5th edition, Symbian^3, Symbian Anna, or Symbian Belle OS.
