The Android version of WhatsApp Messenger has just received an update that is supposed to streamline user’s experience even further and squash any bugs affecting it.

However, WhatsApp has only pushed the update to its beta version, which means that it will not be available for download via Google Play Store for quite a while.

This is the first update that the beta version of WhatsApp for Android receives this week, but additional updates may arrive by the end of the week.

Anyway, the latest update bumps WhatsApp to version 2.11.230, but aside from that, it’s hard to tell what changes it brings. Developers have yet to issue an official changelog, but we suspect that this update is only about tweaking and bug fixes.

WhatsApp’s co-founders confirmed a few days ago that their company would continue to focus on delivering updates that would improve the performance of the application and fix any bugs that might have been brought in previous versions.

The only major feature that will be introduced by WhatsApp in the coming months is free voice calls, which will arrive on Android and iOS platforms initially.

You can now download WhatsApp Messenger for Android 2.11.230 for free via Softpedia. Keep in mind that the application should be fully compatible with most devices powered by Android 2.1 and up.

[UPDATE]: We have just learned that the update brings a much request feature: the option to mute groups permanently or for a certain period of time. In addition, users will now be able to disable notifications from groups (via UnleashThePhones).
