Owners of BlackBerry smartphones who enjoy connecting with their friends and family through the WhatsApp Messenger application can now download and install a new flavor of the software, namely version 2.10.9455.

Available for download for both legacy BlackBerry devices, running under OS 4.6.0 or newer, as well as for BlackBerry 10 smartphones, the new app release brings along a nice range of enhancements and fixes, it seems.

No changelog has been added to the updated app iteration in the BlackBerry World, but the guys over at n4bb did manage to score details on the changes.

According to them, some of the improvements in this app flavor are related to the BlackBerry Hub integration, including some bug fixes.

The chat screen is said to appear more quickly and smoothly from the hub following the update, and there is also support for peek in contact picker when shown from the Hub.

The release notes for the new WhatsApp Messenger for BlackBerry also include:

- Group Info Screen content is now fully scrollable, for better usability - Account Info screen now looks nicer and has direct payment buttons - Added basic media thumbnail browser to Group Info and Contact Info screens - User is now notified if they try to send a message to a blocked contact, and prevented from sharing to a blocked contact - Added an option to the Media Settings screen for setting a custom chat wallpaper - Group chats now open to the last read message, and show an “Unread messages” separator bar - Outgoing message status indicator now shown in the corner of the active frame

Those BlackBerry users who would like to take the latest flavor of the cross-platform messenger application for their devices up for a spin should head over to this page on Softpedia to download it.

Customers new to WhatsApp should know that the messaging service is offered for free for the first year of use, and that it costs only $0.99/year after that.
