The CTIA Wireless 2009 show in Las Vegas has opened its gates today, and the biggest names in the U.S. mobile market are expected to show there to demonstrate their latest solutions, be it hardware or software, so as to allow us to have a glimpse at what should become available on the market in the following months.

And while a number of mobile phones are expected to make their appearance at the show, there will also be a wide range of software applications developed for mobile platforms that are expected to be showcased these days in Las Vegas. The trend seems to have been launched by Apple with its App Store for the iPhone, and, with a series of other industry players following it into the area, we should be able to spot some rather nice applications at the show.

As many of you might already know, Google already launched into the wild its Android Market for the mobile OS it has released last year, and the same did Research in Motion with the AppWorld for its BlackBerry devices, while other players such as Microsoft or Nokia are also expected to jump into the same boat in the near future with the launch of the Windows Marketplace for Mobile and with the Ovi Store coming from Finland.

And since we mentioned Microsoft, we might as well say, for those who do not know yet, that the Redmond company announced yesterday that a great number of app developers would support its Marketplace and the upcoming Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system, both of which are expected to become available in the second half of the year. The list of companies includes EA Mobile, MySpace, Gameloft, AccuWeather, Developer One Mobile Software and more.

A large number of software developers will come here and present their solutions for other mobile platforms as well, including the already mentioned Android or Blackberry OS, as well as the S60 for Symbian operating systems. Moreover, applications that would work on Apple's iPhone platform are also expected to be showcased in Las Vegas, even if the maker will not be present at the show.

In addition, mobile phone carriers in the US will also be there on the CTIA floor to talk about their latest achievements when it comes to their networks and the broadband speeds they'd be able to offer to users. And we’ve already heard that Ericsson intends to surprise us with a new world record in the HSPA field with impressive speeds of up to 56Mbps.

All in all, we should be able to have a glimpse at some of the latest advancements in the mobile phone industry, although only a few weeks have passed since the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona closed its gates. Stay tuned to learn what all the industry players that have gathered at CTIA have in store for us, since you won't be disappointed for sure.
