Yesterday, Norwegian company Opera Software announced the release of updated version of its Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers, with enhancements meant to provide users with a better experience while browsing the Internet on their mobile phones.

Opera Mini, the most popular mobile browser in the world, was brought up to version 6.1, and is available for download for devices running under Android, Blackberry, Java and S60.

The new flavor of the application includes a series of appealing new features, such as support for Google AutoComplete, along with domain auto-suggest, as well as improved text selection.

In Opera Mini 6.1, users will be able to search directly from the address bar, and will also enjoy domain suggest and country domain auto-complete.

At the same time, the new Opera Mini 6.1 also comes with improved stability, as well as with a better device support, Opera announced.

But this is not all, since the application also comes with specific improvements for each of the various mobile operating systems it was updated on, in addition to the set of common improvements that all users will enjoy.

For example, on Android devices, users will enjoy the following:

- Support for more font faces and sizes. - Correct rendering of RTL strings in the UI. - Fixed some device detection issues so that they get correct skin. - Title is now included when sharing a URL. - General bug fixes and improvements.

Specific improvements for BlackBerry handsets include a series of fixes for minor graphical glitches when opening text fields, along with a robust virtual keyboard handling, and a wide range of other general bug fixes and improvements.

Users of Java devices and the owners of mobile phones running under Symbian will enjoy specific improvements for their flavors of Opera Mini 6.1 as well:

Java: - Improved memory handling on Sony Ericsson devices - Improved text input for devices using Rolltech Nemomp JVM - Improved device detection. Samsung GT-B5722, GT-C3510, SDH-D980 and GT-B3410 should now get the correct touch UI - Ring tones can be saved to "tones" download folder - General bug fixes and improvements

Symbian S60: - Adjusted text size on Nokia E6 - Made it possible to start Opera Mini on Sony Ericsson Vivaz when installed on external storage - Improved font rendering for Chinese fonts - Smaller installation size - General bug fixes and improvements

Users should also note that there are a series of known issues that affect Opera Mini 6.1, such as the lack of support for saved pages in previous versions of the browser.

On BlackBerry phones, search suggestions will not appear when the user does not have a socket connection. On Symbian S60 devices, search suggestions might appear with delay at times when no active connection to the server is available.
