Kaspersky protects Vista while OneCare is sleeping

Microsoft developed OneCare as the main security solution for the Windows operating system, but it was proved several times that this application might not be able to protect the user. That's why most of the security companies able to develop powerful products compatible with Microsoft's operating system turned their face to Vista in order to bring more money and consumers to their records. Kaspersky Labs is just one of them, its antivirus and security products being chosen by an impressive number of users from every corner of the world. On Monday, Kaspersky proudly announced that its Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0 have both been granted the Certified for Windows Vista logo that means they are 100 percent compatible with the latest flavor of Windows and able to protect the consumer at full power.

"Microsoft is pleased that Kaspersky Lab has earned the Certified for Windows Vista software logo for its Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0 applications," said Dave Wascha, director of Windows Client Product Management at Microsoft Corp. "This highlights Kaspersky Lab's commitment to providing its customers with higher quality applications that deliver a more secure, reliable and compatible experience with Windows Vista."

"We are pleased that Microsoft experts have confirmed the superior quality and stability of the new generation of Kaspersky Lab products. As the seventh versions of our home users products were developed with the characteristics and new features of Windows Vista in mind, successful completion of the Veritest testing was expected - but nonetheless great news," said Kaspersky Lab CEO Natalya Kaspersky.

It's a well known fact that Microsoft Windows - the operating system produced by the Redmond giant - is one of the most pirated software solutions in the world. For this reason, Microsoft struggled to find a solution to stop this phenomenon that affects the company's image and of course, the profits of the software giant. As you know, the WGA is just one of the attempts but the software crackers quickly found a workaround to bypass the Microsoft security tool. On Tuesday, Microsoft's representatives said that their efforts are now supported by the authorities from every corner of the world, the best example being represented by the Chinese police who arrested several software pirates.

"Microsoft deeply appreciates the work of China's Public Security Bureau in taking such strong enforcement action with these arrests and raids in Southern China," said Brad Smith, senior vice president and general counsel at Microsoft. "This case represents a milestone in the fight against software piracy - governments, law enforcement agencies and private companies working together with customers and software resellers to break up a massive international counterfeiting ring. This case should serve as a wake-up call to counterfeiters. Customers around the world are turning you in, governments and law enforcement have had enough, and private companies will act decisively to protect intellectual property."

The FBI and China's Public Security Bureau worked together to arrest several groups of software crackers who managed to create counterfeited versions of Windows Vista, Microsoft Office 2007, Microsoft Office 2003, Windows XP and Windows Server in multiple languages including Croatian, Dutch, English, German, Italian, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Spanish.

Everybody is waiting for Windows Vista Service Pack 1. Even those of you who didn't install the latest flavor of the Microsoft operating system. I even heard someone saying "I will not upgrade to Windows Vista until Microsoft rolls out SP1". Quite obvious, I would say, because the software giant said that Vista SP1 will bring several fixes, patches and updates that will be able to make the operating system more compatible with lots of hardware devices.

There were rumors that Microsoft prepares the release of SP1 for this year. Some said the Redmond giant wants to launch the pack of updates very soon. On Wednesday, a new rumor hit the market: Microsoft will officially roll out Vista SP1 in 2009! Outrageous, many of you will say. But this is what Valleywag reports: "Microsoft has apparently told executives at one of the world's largest PC makers not to expect a formal release of Windows Vista SP1 - the first major set of upgrades and bug fixes to its Vista operating system - until 2009 at the earliest."

A new episode of the battle between Microsoft and Google was presented on Thursday when the Redmond company managed to beat the search giant once again. Microsoft proudly said that it signed a deal with the famous Digg website to become the main provider of the adverts published on the page. Until now, Digg was working with Google's advertising platform but the search giant will be replaced by Microsoft which will become the main provider of contextual advertising on Digg.

"Our collaboration with Digg is about bringing our advertising technology and sales force to one of the fastest-growing sites on the Web and a true innovator in user-generated content," said Steve Berkowitz, senior vice president of the Online Services Group at Microsoft. "We believe advertisers will welcome Microsoft and Digg's combined strengths to forge more meaningful connections online."

"We're now positioned to provide a world-class advertising solution that builds upon Digg's philosophy of providing a great experience for users and advertisers," said Jay Adelson, CEO of Digg. "As the Digg audience continues to grow and diversify, we believe that this initiative with Microsoft, and the resources that it provides, will enable us to focus less on developing an advertising infrastructure and more on developing new and innovative features for the site."

On Friday, the game department of the Redmond company was again brought in the spotlights as the parent firm confirmed a partnership with EA to incorporate several games into their offering. Madden NFL 08, NASCAR 08, NHL 08, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08 and SKATE will be developed in two flavors: Xbox 360 and PC.

"We're thrilled to be EA's trusted partner for dynamic in-game advertising for these products," said Cory Van Arsdale, CEO of Massive. "The addition of EA's leading titles to our network represents a tremendous opportunity for brands targeting the youth demographic and sends a clear message that in-game advertising has arrived as a compelling medium for marketers."
