The development on Google Chrome is moving forward on three fronts, with builds suited for all different type of users. The Stable channel build doesn't seem to be getting a lot of attention, as the development is focused on the Beta and especially the Dev channels, but, if Chrome is ever going to get some real mainstream traction, it's the stable build that's going to accomplish that. Google just updated the stable channel Chrome build to 3.0.195.32 and the latest version comes with the usual set of stability and security fixes, but nothing in terms of new features.
Chrome 3.0.195 has been around for a couple of months now, and it's only seen some small bug-fixing updates. This latest one is no exception, with five issues being resolved. An issue that prevented users from going back from searches in Google Maps has now been fixed. Another one affecting Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.2 has also been resolved and content now displays properly.
A problem coming from upstream in the Webkit build, the open source HTML rendering engine on which Google Chrome is built, in which decoding an AAC file would sometimes lead to an infinite loop has also been resolved. A bug that was one of the leading crash causes in the stable Chrome builds has now finally been fixed. Finally, an issue where setInterval would take up 100 percent of the CPU is now also resolved.
A couple of security holes have also been plugged. In the first one, users weren't warned that some file types, like SVG, MHT and XML, could run JavaScript code on their machines and could potentially access local resources. The user would need to visit a malicious site and open the file in order for this type of attack to be successful.
Finally, an attacker could use a Gears vulnerability to cause memory corruption leading the Gears plugin to crash or possibly to arbitrary code being run. In order to pull off this type of attack, a user would have to visit a page controlled by the attacker and also confirm that they trust the site to use the Gears plugin. Both issues have now been fixed.
