Those who were sure that Apple failed to impress with the iPhone 6 have something to think about after the Cupertino-based company announced amazing numbers for the first weekend.

According to Tim Cook, Apple has sold no less than 10 million iPhone 6 units in just 3 (three) days. The achievement is even more impressive if we take into consideration the fact that iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were only available in 10 countries.

For those unware, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are both available right now in the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK, but they will also be launched in more than 20 additional countries on September 26.

Apple also confirmed that both new iPhone 6 smartphones would go on sale in about 115 countries by the end of this year, which is supposed to boost the company’s revenues even further.

In a short statement, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook thanks all iPhone fans and customers who ordered the new smartphones and confirms that his company is working hard to fulfill all orders as quickly as possible.

“Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend, and we couldn’t be happier. We would like to thank all of our customers for making this our best launch ever, shattering all previous sell-through records by a large margin.

“While our team managed the manufacturing ramp better than ever before, we could have sold many more iPhones with greater supply and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible.”

Apple iPhone 6 sales exceed all expectations, set new record

The impressive number of iPhone 6 units sold during the first weekend sales should not surprise anyone though considering that Apple confirmed it had managed to sell no less than 4 million new iPhones in just 24 hours.

Apple’s bet on larger screens seems to be at the base of the massive success in the first three days of sales, but this is only the tip of the iceberg, as the company is likely to deliver a much higher number of iPhone 6 units by the end of the year.

Even though neither of the iPhone 6 smartphones are seen as innovative, it looks like long-time iPhone users were craving for a larger display, hence the large number of Apple fans who upgraded to the new iPhone 6 in the first three days.

We wouldn’t be surprised if a large chunk of customers who ordered an iPhone 6 over the first weekend on sale came from other platforms like Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry.
