Google announced its intent to acquire Urchin Software, a web analysis company.
The company develops programs and services which are sold to the website’s owners and to those involved
in the online advertising. The purpose of these programs is to help them understand the customers’ profile who visits the site and what are the traffic sources.
Google’s involvement in this web segment comes only to confirm the battle between the three search and online advertising giants (Google, MSN and Yahoo) has reached epic proportions.
The announcement that Google will acquire Urchin Sofware comes a few days after MSN announced the releasing of an AdCenter.
Urchin Software has in its customer list names like: NBC, NASA and almost the fifth part of the Fortune 500 top.
It’s not clear yet what is Google’s intention regarding the acquiring of Urchin Software which will be finalized at the end of April and will amount to 30 million dollars, but there are already speculations that Google will increase the prices for commercials.
Every time Google came with technological novelties, it increased the prices for the commercials.
Urchin Software also offered web hosting, but Google didn’t show any intent of getting involved in such services.
Anyway, Google’s recent actions are more and more surprising and target different domains (VoIP, software products and email services) and the speculations that a Google browser will be released, and in 2010 we might witness the appearance of a Google operating system are all nightmares for Microsoft.
