Chinese domain name scams have been around for several years now. Since scammers keep sending out such emails, it might be useful for users to know how these schemes work and how to protect themselves against them.

Conrad Longmore of Dynamoo’s Blog has published a short video advisory that explains this very well.

Such scams typically start with an email which informs the recipient that someone wants to register Asian domain names that are similar to one owned by the victim.

In reality, no one wants to register the domains in question. Instead, the crooks hope that their potential victims will pay them some money in order to allegedly prevent the registration of the domains.

Another interesting Chinese domain name scam-related resource is maintained by Christopher Hofman Laursen of the European Domain Centre. He has created the most extensive list of Chinese domain name scammers on the Internet.
