These features will be removed when the upgrade is completed

Today Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 will launch on July 29, and in documentation detailing the upgrade from Windows 7 and 8.1 to the new OS version, the company provides us with info on the features that will be removed when you decide to take advantage of the free Windows 10 upgrade offer.

As we told you a few weeks ago, Microsoft is giving up on Windows Media Center development, so when you upgrade from an OS version that has the Media Center add-on installed, it will be removed by the Windows 10 installer.

At the same time, the Windows 7 desktop gadgets will be completely deleted too, as this particular feature was unavailable since the introduction of Windows 8.

All the games that were pre-installed in Windows 7, such as Solitaire, Minesweeper, and Hearts, will be removed when you install Windows 10. The new operating system will come with Candy Crush Saga and Solitaire Collection pre-installed, so new games will be available once the upgrade is completed.

New DVD playback software required

In Windows 10, you’ll need new DVD playback software to watch DVDs, Microsoft notes, and if you’re still using a USB floppy drive, new drivers will have to be manually installed because they’re not included in Windows 10.

In addition, if you have Windows Live Essentials on your computer, OneDrive will be removed and replaced with the inbox version of OneDrive.

Last but not least, the update system will be changed thanks to the new policy that Microsoft is planning to use in Windows 10.

“Windows 10 Home users will have updates from Windows Update automatically available. Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise users will have the ability to defer updates,” the company explains.

Overall, Windows 10 will be a worthy upgrade for all those who are still on Windows 7 and 8.1, and given the fact that it’ll be offered free of charge to those running one of these two OS versions on their PCs, make sure that you reserve your copy of Windows 10 to install it as soon as it becomes available.
