14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft launched the new Nokia 215 at CES 2015, and since it's not really a smartphone, many people are actually wondering why on Earth someone would purchase such a device.
Basically, the Nokia 215 does have some Internet capabilities, but it's not really the kind of device that can replace your smartphone and it's really difficult to believe that anyone would get one to use it online.
In fact, since so many people are trying to figure out the purpose of this phone, Microsoft rolled out an infographic to explain that, despite its small screen and limited functionality, there are plenty of things you can do with the Nokia 215.
50 hours of music
The classic candy bar design is just perfect for those who want to turn their phones into a powerful MP3 player, and if you really want to listen to music, no problem. The Nokia 215 provides up to 50 hours of continuous MP3 playback time, according to Microsoft's figures.
At the same time, its battery, which in standby can last up to 29 days, also offers a maximum of 20 hours of talk time, again according to Redmond's estimate.
But that's not all, the Nokia 215 also comes with a 0.3-megapixel camera, 8 MB of RAM, 32 GB of storage space through microSD card support, and a 2.4-inch display. And yes, it has a torch and everything, just like the old Nokia models. The Nokia 215 technical specifications are available after the jump.
$29 price tag
Nokia 215 was designed from the very beginning to be really affordable, so the device will launch with a price tag of $29 (€25) later this year in Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe.
Microsoft says that this new device would help people who make their first steps into a mobile-first world, and there's no doubt that those who do not really want a smartphone to browse the web all day long would find this new phone really appealing.
Obviously, it remains to be seen how many people will actually buy one when it becomes available later in 2015.
