Clement Lefebvre, the founder, project leader, developer and maintainer of the Linux Mint project, is working very hard these days to release an operating system that will enchant many Linux users.

Long story short, the upcoming Linux Mint 12, dubbed Lisa, is an operating system based on the Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) distribution and powered by Linux kernel 3.0, featuring a new user interface based on the GNOME 3 desktop environment.

From Linux Mint 12, users should expect that classic (two panel) style for the desktop interface, the one that (apparently) most of the Linux users want to use.

Linux Mint 12 (Lisa) is also built on top of a complete version of the GNOME 3.2.1 desktop environment.

Two new and exciting features of the upcoming Linux Mint 12 distribution are the MATE desktop interface for all GNOME 2 fans (experimental and not enabled by default) and the MGSE (Mint Gnome Shell Extensions) which will make your GNOME 3 experience more enjoyable.

Being based on Ubuntu 11.10, Linux Mint 12 will have the LightDM login manager featuring the same wallpaper as the one on the desktop. Mozilla Firefox 8 and Mozilla Thunderbird 7 are the default web browser and email client.

Linux Mint 12 will not feature a boot splash screen, instead users will see a black screen during both the startup and shutdown/restart sequences.

Linux Mint 12 will also not feature the overlay scrollbars from the Ubuntu distribution. However, a new beautiful desktop theme called Mint-Z (based on the famous Zukitwo and Mint-X) will make all users happy.

Linux Mint 12 will be distributed as Live CDs (without multimedia codecs) and Live DVDs (with everything included) for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures.

If you're asking us when Linux Mint 12 will be released, than you should know that we have no specific date for it. However, it should be out sooner than you might expect, so get your machines ready for Lisa!
