Don't you just love video games? Of course you do, that's why you read gaming news, but isn't it that sometimes you're so proud of your gaming system and the titles you play on it that you just want the whole world to know? Everyone's thankful for something in gaming, but someone in particular has 5 things he's thankful for and that someone shared them with the rest of the world
recently.
Dr. Boa writes on Destructoid.com that the top things he's thankful for in gaming are: 1. the fact that that games today don't have flicker or slowdown, 2.
Xbox LIVE Arcade, 3. online multiplayer, 4. autosave and of course 5. the fact that gaming systems simply WORK these days. In fact, the comments on this last topic really cracked me up so, since we've all been there, why don't you read this excerpt and bring back some great memories:
"5. And finally, I'm glad that gaming systems simply WORK.
I can't even begin to tell you how many times I nearly passed out from blowing so hard into my NES just to get it to work. The combination of lack of oxygen and the rising anger would probably have killed me if I was bloated as I am today, thanks to Mickey D fries. What I don't get is how the Japanese NES worked like a charm," Dr. Boa writes.
And isn't it true...? Systems back then even had "off days." You could wake up one morning wanting to play, let's say "
The Legend of Zelda: A
Link to the Past" but the damned thing just wouldn't start. Tired of blowing supposed dirt inside the cartridge slot, or shaking the machine and cartridge around, we would just get breakfast and go play outside, only to come back home, watch TV with mom and dad, go to bed, and just wake up the other day to a working Legend of Zelda game.
However, we can't say it's much different today. Machines freeze, crash etc. quite often, while firmware issues are direct descendants from blowing dust.
One thing I'm thankful for in gaming is actually my job! What are you thankful for in gaming?
