As you've read in one of our articles today, rumor has it that Apple is thinking about selling video clips by means of the iTunes. It's quite obvious that, due to this bit of information, the rumors regarding the video iPod have also been revived. Actually, this story begins to look a lot like the quest for the Holy Grail, which nobody ever saw, but everyone is convinced that it does/should exist, and it's only one step
away.
The problem is that, despite the euphoria engulfing some people, we might never see a video iPod. Why? Because, if in the case of MP3s, the users are interested in light equipments which they can carry around with them, when speaking about movies, the idea is to have access to bigger screens and better sound. There are already some video players the size of a pocket MP3 player on the market, and, beside the brand name, I don't really see what an iPod could offer in order to convince the users to watch a movie on 3.5 inch display.
As for the fact that Apple has bought the audio-video chip from Broadcom, I think that we shouldn't relate this to movies, but to something completely different. What would you say about games on the iPod? The games for mobile devices are still going through their pre-teen phase, so there's a lot of room for development. Some think that the iPod should fear the Sony PSP, but considering the way in which Apple reacts and plans its business, I think that Sony should really be worried if iPod ever decides to hit the gaming market.
