Will things get any better?

Time is money, that's what they say. If you can increase the speed of your business, you can make more money. And how can you speed things up? Use the Internet, of course! Many web analysts predict that the Net will be the business environment of the future. And I tend to agree, with things evolving at this rate, it's bound for businessmen to take things to the next level. The virtual world has endless possibilities and it's no longer a cold and dry thing - with broadband connections and great webcams you will have no problem with talking to and seeing your customer. And that is just a small benefit, just think of database development, mobile working and virtualization. The Web is bound to give a business a lot of boons, but security issues are going to counterbalance those, unless properly attended to.

So, now, corporations will have to think more about security, in order to make things right. For one thing, if they are using the Web, they will need not only to deploy anti-hacking defense policies, but they will also need data encryption. Why is that good? Well, even if they do get past your UTM, firewall etc etc, and they get to the data - so what? They can't do anything with it, if they can't understand it. That's why encryption is really necessary.

Then, there's virtualization. Now that is going to really pain hackers. This measure will allow users to work in a threat-free environment, independent of their hardware and software. So if a hacker "cracks" your machine open - so what? He won't get access to anything, because the data is not on your machine, but on the virtual one. And if IP based logon is deployed as well, a malicious user can't do anything bad, even if he phishes account info via keyloggers. Of course, virtualization will come with lag, but seeing how web-connections are reaching for the sky, I doubt this will be a problem in the coming years.
