Yesterday, Sea Shepherd confirmed that, on December 13, Animal Planet would air a “Whale Wars” two-hour special. The show, dubbed “Whale Wars: A Commander Rises,” will hit screens at 9 p.m. ET.

According to the organization, this two-hour special documents the Sea Shepherd's 2012-2013 anti-whaling campaign in the Antarctic.

“The show will chronicle the dramatic high seas encounters with Japan's whaling fleet by Sea Shepherd Australia’s brave crew of more than 100 volunteers from around the world and their epic 2012-2013 Antarctic whale defense campaign,” Sea Shepherd writes on its website.

The organization further details that, although Captain Paul Watson will make an appearance on the show, he's role will be that of a mere observer.

This is because, after the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ordered him to keep his distance from the Japanese whaling fleet, the Captain was left with no choice except quit his position as the organization's leader.
