Experimental jelly sound device. Why?

There are things that make sense and things that don't, as there are things that make sense but suck and things that actually don't make any sense nor are they good for anything. Experimenting is one thing - people are supposed to experiment in technology and extend their knowledge. Now, I've noticed that, lately, people have started to pay more and more attention to experimenting for the sake of it solely as it seems that fun is what drives experimentation rather than the search for knowledge.

Some guy thought to mix speakers, sound-generating circuitry and... JELLY! What should such contraption be called and what could its purpose be I don't know but fact is that such a device exists. Or existed actually, as the jelly finally decayed and the whole thing came apart.

Students at USC have been asked to create something "dishy" yet sound-related using but a rather limited amount of resources and so our jello-speaker came into being. Even more, it has been fitted with photoelectrics as well. Why? No one can exactly tell, not even Aaron (the student who made all this). It is just a proof that jelly can go together with electricity and sound or that experimental science's limits are way further than we may have thought.

The jelly-based project hasn't opened any technological door so far and I guess it won't do such a thing in the future as well: there is no point in designing a speaker and circuitry-loaded mold in which you'd pour jelly, other than getting an A for completing a task given to you by your teacher who wants to test your creativity.

As there isn't actually a very strong reason in telling you much more about this other than to let you know that such a thing is possible and has been made. And no, they didn't eat the jelly!
