As the siege on the Westgate Mall in Nairobi, Kenya ends, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has released a press statement giving details about the attack.

According to The Hindu, Kenyatta describes that the total death toll is 61, including the six guards that have been killed in the confrontation with the terror suspects.

“Fellow Kenyans, we have been badly hurt and feel great pain and loss, but we have been brave, united and strong. [...] Kenya has stared down great evil and triumphed,” Kenyatta says.

Five suspects have also been fatally shot as police and armed forces faced off with the “multinational collection” of Islamist radicals that took over the mall on Saturday.

62 people are still unaccounted for and the death toll could increase. The president has declared three days of national mourning for the victims.
