Just now, Western Digital, well known for its storage solutions, has announced the availability of a new firmware package developed for the My Cloud EX4 personal storage, namely version 1.04.04, which adds support for 5TB and 6TB HDDs, as well as several other changes.

The newly-released update resolves issues with the session timeout while using Web File Viewer, HTTP downloading with servers that require credentials, as well as with Adware applications that crashed the Dashboard.

If version 1.04.04 is applied, the EX4 can be restarted even if a USB drive is plugged in, filenames can be changed in public shares, and multiple files can be downloaded using Web File Viewer. Also, the “Remember Me” feature has been updated in order to be able to retain user credentials.

In addition to that, the producer managed to disable by default the DLNA Media Serving, as well as the FTP and NFS protocols. However, changes will be made if the My Cloud is reset to factory settings.

Moreover, the EX4 now supports transfer progress percentage when using the HTTP Downloads function, and gets its “Diagnostics” section updated. Also, the device won’t crash when in JBOD and using the DNLA Media Server button, and has no domain join issue regarding the Server 2012 Active Directory.

As for installing the release, simply get and extract the downloadable archive, log into the device’s dashboard, and go to Settings → Firmware Update.

Now, simply click on the “Update from file” button, navigate and select the newly-extracted .bin file, click “Ok” to initiate the upgrade, and wait for the process to complete. Upon completion, the device will reboot automatically.

That being said, download WD My Cloud EX4 Personal Cloud Storage Firmware 1.04.04, take into account all aforementioned aspects, apply the latest firmware version, and enjoy your newly-improved personal storage.

[Update 24/7] A few moments ago, WD has made available the download links for the same firmware version compatible with the My Cloud EX2 and Mirror storages. The related packages include the same changes as the EX4 update and share the same upgrade method.

Therefore, go ahead and download WD My Cloud EX2 Personal Storage Firmware 1.04.04 or WD My Cloud Mirror Personal Storage Firmware 1.04.04, and keep your devices up to date.
