Western Digital, one of the world's leading vendors of storage products, has recently announced the launch of a new 2.5-inch hard drive designed to provide users with an impressive 1TB of storage space. With the launch of the new product, the company once again proves its commitment to provide users with the very latest solutions
in the storage market, like the first 2TB 3.5-inch hard drive and the new 1TB 2.5-inch one. The new storage solution is ideal for users looking for a higher-capacity portable hard drive, or even for some notebook users who can upgrade their systems with a 12.5mm one.

“The convergence of the growing mobile computing and digital media trends produces demand for desktop-like capacities in portable devices,” said Jim Morris, senior vice president and general manager of client systems at WD. “Our new WD Scorpio Blue drives enable people to take even more of their digital collections with them wherever they go and, realizing the value of their data, back up their notebooks on their My Passport drives.”

Unlike traditional 2.5-inch hard drives, the new WD Scorpio Blue features a 12.5mm form factor, which makes it more suitable for portable storage solutions, rather than an upgrade option for notebook users. Laptop users should check to see if their systems can support the new 2.5-inch drives from Western Digital before deciding to upgrade to the new 750GB and 1TB solutions.

The new drives are available in capacities of 750GB and 1TB and have already been made available to select distributors and resellers. Price wise, the new WD Scorpio Blue 1TB drive is set to go for about US$249.99, while the lower-capacity 750GB model will be available for US$189.99. The drives are backed by a three-year limited warranty.
