It is definitely thinking of different things than Seagate has recently

Seagate has just launched the first purpose-built 4TB video hard disk drive, so, naturally, Western Digital was not far behind with its own HDD announcement.

Still, WD did approach a totally different customer base: those from the enterprise and bulk storage markets.

Long story short, Western Digital has released the WD Se family of 3.5-inch drives in 2 TB, 3 TB, and 4 TB capacities.

They have SATA 6 Gbps support, dynamic fly height technology (read-write head's fly height is adjusted in real time for optimum reliability), dual-actuator technology, a multi-axis shock sensor, a motor shaft secured at both ends (reduces system-induced vibration, stabilizes platters) and Advanced Format 4K sector technology.

Western Digital hopes to see the WD Se in NAS and cloud applications.
