The Thunderbolt technology from Intel has Western Digital promoting it at this year's Macworld/iWorld event, taking place at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, between January 26 and January 28.

Thunderbolt can work at up to 10 Gbps on two channels at once, in both directions, which means much higher read/write speeds in all applications.

Video editing, 3D rendering and other intense graphics projects can particularly benefit from this use.

Also, an HD movie can be copied in under 30 seconds (assuming the storage device can handle it) and it is even possible to back up about 8,600 hours of music (a whole year's worth) in 10 minutes.

That said, Western Digital implemented thunderbolt support in its My Book Thunderbolt Duo dual-drive storage system. Visitors can stop by booth #401 for a look at it.
