Western Digital, one of the world's leading manufacturers of computer hard disk drives, has recently announced the expansion of its My Book range of external storage solutions with the introduction of the My Book World Edition, coming in 1TB and 2TB capacities. Designed to combine a shiny white enclosure with the storage capacities of the company's latest Caviar Green hard disk drives, the new drives should make for an adequate solution for users who require a significant storage solution for their media libraries or other important data.

“Finding a simple way to stay backed up can be a daunting task for consumers, especially when there are multiple PCs to protect," said Jim Welsh, senior vice president and general manager of WD's branded products and consumer electronics groups. "With a My Book World Edition drive, it just takes a few simple steps for a family to automatically back up all the computers in their home and keep the backup continuously up to date. Media streaming and remote access add fun and flexibility to the mix making My Book World Edition a great choice for today's digital home.”

The new My Book World Edition comes just after the storage company introduced its first 2TB hard disk drives, part of its Caviar Green lineup. They are designed to provide computer users with a massive storage solution, which they can access through the Gigabit Ethernet and USB 2.0 connectivity options built in these external drives. These should make Western Digital's latest products available for both PC and Macs.

According to Western Digital, the new external drives will be provided with a 3-year warranty and are now available, through select retailers and WD's online store, in both 1TB and 2TB storage capacities. As far as pricing is concerned, the storage company announced that the new My Book World Edition models have recommended price tags of $229,99 and $449.99, respectively.
